Beefing up the portfollio

To everyone in America, happy Thanksgiving. To outside America, don’t let that stop you from overindulging just a little today, if for no other reason that it’s Thursday. I’m just going to be beefing up my portfolio with pictures and renders of some projects I’ve been working on lately. So apologies to those following me on Google+ for the deluge …

Permission to SQWEEEE

I normally try to keep my commentary about 3d printing of this blog but this war just too cool and too momentus to leave unmentioned. You can read more direct from the source here: http://www.nasa.gov/content/open-for-business-3-d-printer-creates-first-object-in-space-on-international-space-station/index.html#.VHXVMGjn9oN Honestly,  though,  do I need to say anything? If your mind is not telling with the possibilities you need to get your imagination checked. Repacement …

Ugh, supports.

While designing the succubus for Just Game I discovered completely by random a similar winged female figure on myminifactory. Curious how the designer managed to acomplish what I couldn’t I decided to dig in and I found the following: His model is much larger. His model is in parts that you have to glue together The parts were oriented to …

Watch It Played 3D Printing Commentary

So here is Rodney’s impression of our joint adventure in distributed manufacturing, and his commentary is spot on. Yes, 3D printing is still a little too expensive, though what Rodney didn’t mention I was able to talk the 3d printer in Quebec down because I knew how much it should cost. Yes, 3D printing is very consistent if you design …

Book stand and yarn needle

Yup, that’s what’s going on there. The yarn needle was not a project I would have done were I not related to some yarners. (Yarnies? Yarnites?) I guess sometimes you need to go around a sleeve or something and apparently it was easier to ask me to model and 3d printing versus hitting an existing needle with a heat gun …

If you don’t have a 3D printer MyMiniFactory is having a contest and the grand prize is a 3D printer. how do you win? Make something that prints without supports, like I’ve been teaching you to do from the beginning. So if you’ve been following me you already know all you need in order to win this contest, so go …

Lithophane project video

This week’s video I wanted to show off a new technique I found for making lithophane’s in Blender that’s so easy I will never do it any other way again. I used to do them a different way in the past, but this is so much better. And versatile. I have so many project ideas that I’m going to do …

YouMagine Feature

I am excited that Joris Peels of YouMagine has decided to feature this blog on the YouMagine blog. Wow. You’d think being featured for my blog writing content, I’d have more to say about this.  Uh, YouMagine is cool and you all should stop using Thingiverse.

Modeling 3D Printing Project 7 – Snow Tube Hook

Tried a little something different this time. Instead of giving you something in the vein of an education I’m just working on something and rambling while I do. Is this useful? Is this entertaining? I don’t know, please let me know. Whether I do it again is based on your feedback so don’t remain quiet. Leave a comment and let …

Teaching 3D Modeling IRL

I had the opportunity a few weeks back to teach a local youth group 3D printing design for a chess project. Went over some basics, showed them the printer, showed them how to model a few pieces in Tinkercad and Blender, showed off my chess set collection, and then answered some questions. I really enjoyed it and I think I’ll …
