HEY! LISTEN!

With the 2 stubby ring bases printed that’s 22 prints, 9 successful ones. My ratio is on the rise. My son’s pretty happy with his birthday gift fresh off the replicator. Now his brother wants one in opposite colors. I think I can do that. It feels real good when a print works. Still, I haven’t successfully printed a chess …

A night of trials, alot of prints

Last evening I think I finally cracked it! From left to right: (1) A halted print that was supposed to be scaled down. (2) A failed action chess king. (3) Another failed action chess king. (4) A moderately successful dual extrusion print. (5) Successfully scaled down parts attached to my alot from last time. For the two failed kings there’s …

Prints 12 – 14

Print 12 was another tire lever, this time in white, that had even more curl in it than the black one, but otherwise was successful. For Print 13 I wanted to try dual extruding with the raft turned off. The model would be my very own alot, and the result was… mixed. The first time I didn’t check either of …

Print 11 – Tire Lever

It’s amazing what a little reinstall will do… sort of. I wiped out the ReplicatorG folder and my .replicatorg folder in %appdata% to be sure I wouldn’t have any lingering effects of my endless tinkering, then reinstalled ReplicatorG. Then I ran G-Code on the tire lever, manually edited the g-code to increase the build platform to 115 C and the …

Print 10, failure

In an attempt to follow the advice given me I re-leveled the platform and raise the temperature another 5 degrees on both the platform and the extruder. Then I tried to build a bike tire leveler. What the…. So I tried again, this time I watched it, and somehow I managed to prevent the raft from printing. In all my …

Prints 8 and 9, Help!

My next print was so specific to my needs that I didn’t think it would be worth posting it on Thingiverse, but it was actually the very first thing I tried modeling for 3D print even before the Chinese Chess set. However, not having a 3D printer until now I haven’t had a chance to see if I managed to …

Suddenly success!

After watching a Replicator G tips and tricks video I figured out how to raise the platform temperature and had my first successful print. A mini shark clip with an 8mm hex wrench on the back. Unfortunately I scaled down the shark and it may be too small to use to hold my pants away from my bike chain. But …

Prints 2-6

Good morning. Today I’m gonna print something… I hope. So the next step was to install Replicator G. I wanted to get as soon as I could into printing something cooler than the test prints. The install of Replicator G was… pretty good. Why is it trying to install in the My Documents folder? Why isn’t there a shortcut on …

Like I was going to wait

Sitting in it’s soon to be home in the garage As soon as the kids were in bed I queued up the Makerbot’s unboxing tutorial videos and that Replicator was out of the box and assembled. The process was amazingly smooth and simple and only took about 30 minutes, maybe less. Well done Makerbot on a user friendly experience. I …

Makerbot arrived.

No warning, no invoice, no tracking number. Just a huge box on my front door, and weeks earlier than I thought. I may not be a paying customer, but Makerbot has certainly exceeded expectations. More to come this weekend.
