If you’re a regular reader of my blog, following the links in the pinned comments in the description of every video, then you already knew this, because it was bascially the writeup of my last video. Also, you’re legend.
After writing this all out in my last video I realized that I should make a video out of it. I had already recorded and edited what will be my next video, but I decided to put that one on hold and record this one. I also paid someone in Indonesia on Fiverr to make a new March MadMess logo.
It was my first Fiverr experience. I’ll know better next time what to ask for. And to give myself more time. The logo needs a 3D printer in it somewhere. And less gradients so it shows up better on screen. But I like the overall aesthetic.
After March I’ve got a few irons currently in the fire that I’m going to spring on you. Of course, you being the legend you are, you get to hear about them first.
First of all there’s PrintABlok:ElectroBlok. Take PrintABlok, add electronic components with long leads soldered on them, and you’ve got Electroblok. Hopefully in the end they’ll be used for everything from toys and game to, maybe, destructible fighting robots that are easy to put back together.
To clear up a few things. No, this isn’t going to be a kickstarter. I figure since these require the purchase and ownership of additional components I’m not going to put these behind a paywall. When they’re ready they’ll be released for free. Yes, I have already put together a bill of materials for each of the components, and I’m going to continue to do such. My immediate goal for these is a series of tutorial videos (also released for free) with an emphasis on teaching people how to program Arduino. I feel like most Arduino projects, even the ones that purport to be educational, short cut the process of teaching programming to people, to the detriment of the community, and I think I can do better. So I’ll be making a series of videos (also released for free) with detailed guides on building the printabloks you’ll need for the next lesson so people can follow along and build their Electoblok collection a little at a time.
I’ve already released the first few blocks I’ve created. Just go to the #PrintABlok channel on my discord and download the zip from the pinned message. And if you have suggestions for components you want to see, let me know!
Next, I’m starting a new channel: Blender for 3D Printing. In September I’m going to focus on making content for this new channel, since every time I make a Blender video past the original “Absolute beginner’s Guide” series it tanks my analytics. So instead of dragging down my main channel, I’ll make a new channel for it and maybe that’ll find it audience and take off.
I’ll be starting with a new Absolute Beginner’s Guide series for Blender 3. While most of the features of Blender 3 aren’t actually going to matter for 3D printing, 3 is a nice round number so it’ll be easy to Google.
As I’ll be focusing on that channel for a little while, the 3D Printing Professor channel may be a bit dead for a while once I start making content for that channel. But, I will have to come back to work on the ElectroBlok series, so don’t you worry.
