3D printers on a curve and unboxing the LK4 Video

Watch on YouTube

I figure around this time of year a lot of people are wondering why 3D printers cost what they do. And, true to my nature, instead of answering why, I’ll just talk to you about why it’s a difficult question to answer. Of course the question of “which 3D printer should I buy” is also complicated without knowing anything about you, so a discussion about that would likely be just as unsatisfying. I’ve often considered that I should put together a flowchart or choose-your-own adventure sort of video series where you can get the answer to what 3D printer you should buy, but when I actually tried writing it out, it ended up over 40 nodes of decisions. I worked from both ends, the people who might want to buy a 3D printer, and the 3d printers people would want to buy, and as much as possible, I tried to meet these two ends in the middle. And it was truly interesting to me the 3D printers that I legitimately couldn’t figure out who would want to buy them. Not that they were bad or over priced, I just could not find a market for some 3D printers.

But, yeah, what 3D printer should you buy? I’d need to sit down with you and talk for a while to find out.

Can you believe it took me 2 weeks to make this video? The holidays are just so busy for me. At first I had a hard time finding a night in the shed that wasn’t too cold. (You can still see my breath in this video). And then when I did get the time, I was surprised that the LK4 pro required as much setup as it did. That honestly threw me so bad I forgot half my talking points and had to create that “from the editing desk” segment to fix it. And in the end I kinda like how this turned out. I think it’s intersting to juxtapose my 2 recording rigs, the 4K camera with a lav mic plugged into a phone, and the logitect webcam with a professional boom mic plugged into a zoom H4N. One is definitely better video, one is… maybe better audio. I’ll the comments decide. I’m sure someone is going to make a comment about it.

But on the plus side, you get to see my messy editing desk/work table.
