This video, for as short and silly as it is, has a couple of things going on behind the scenes to talk about.
First of all, this was printed on my JGAurora, which is currently my primary 3D printer.
To get the time lapse I was using my webcam, that I used to make the primary video on most of my videos. However, I didn’t have any sort of fancy mount for it, so I just held it on to the build plate with bluetak. Yup, that’s bluetak holding the camera in place. Part way through the print I realized my framing was off, so I moved the camera, that’s why I had to take the time lapse and break it up. You’ll notice the framing is different in the time lapse before and the time lapse after.
Next, the turn around was filmed on my brand new Sony A6300 camera that I will be using for my primary filming going forward. WHAAAAT! Yup, I’ve upgraded and this was the video I cut my teeth on. This camera is capable of 4k video… but of course it defaults to 1080p and I didn’t discover that until I was editing the video.
Now, I’ll tell you what I didn’t do. I entirely forgot to hook up a sample I got sent by Filamentum and print with that. This would have been the perfect opportunity to show that off. So it’s not perfect. However, this video was more designed for social media, facebook and the like. I really like how the new version of Hit Film makes text overlays easier to do. Expect that I’ll be doing a lot more of those going forward to try to social-friendly up my videos. Gotta get them sweet, sweet facebook views.
