3D Printing Vs Laser Cutting Video

One point I forgot to mention in the video is that Laser Cut designs are generally less portable than 3D printing designs. Especially if there are bits meant to mesh together, if you ahve the wrong thickness of material or need to scale the design down, you need to go into the design side and fix everything. For that reason, there’s no Thingiverse for lasercut projects. Okay, technically Thingiverse has laser cut projects on it, but that’s not what it’s primarily thought of. You know what I mean. Laser cut projects aren’t as portable.

In this video, all I see is dirty audio, not as many graphics as I’d like, a smudge on the lense, and generally… I don’t know. But, I like how I pulled off the dual camera effect with only one camera. I recorded all the laser cutter bits in one go, with fake stoops and stand ups between, then filmed all the 3D printer bits with fake stand-ups and stoops between, then shuffled them together. I used a portable recording setup, so I didn’t get the teleprompter for this one, which I will tell you about in the next video, and that corner of the makerspace is always noisy. But over all, I’m happy to have this video out.

You may have noticed the new calls to action in this video. The Christmas one at the beginning I feel I need to re-record with more enthusiasm. The animation on the support call to action took all day. That one I kinda wanted a PBS vibe for. And I kind of enjoyed having my kids help out with it. I hope it doesn’t come across as too intrusive. But I am trying to put the focus on direct supporters, since Patreon has had it’s problems in the past. Future videos will include a few more of these sorts of bumpers and I hope to get a unified ending that will be a little better as well. Little by little I’m investing more time to make my videos better so that hopefully I can get back to cruse mode, but at a higher level.

In my mind, this video is the 3rd segment of the Teleprompter episode, but segment 1 will have to wait until next week and segment 3 will be up on the Washco Makerspace channel. Maybe I’ll edit them all together so that you all can see the vision of what I’m planning.
