The drama with BambuLabs is a little bit the fault of the community, and a little bit the fault of BambuLabs. Here’s how the community could have responded better, and how BambuLabs could address the issues.
One of the stated goals of this channel is to promote positive change in the 3D printing industry. Videos condemning a 3D printing company for not doing things the way you think they should doesn’t help do that. But, if you feel there’s a good reason why something shouldn’t be done, give the person doing it a reason that it’s important to them. That’s why I didn’t talk about how this is a violation of our privacy or how this is bad for me… at least not when I was addressing Bambu directly. I talked about how this choice was costing them money every time someone 3D printed.
I mentioned this on Patreon and on the Mailing list, but I’ve been working on a big project that I’ll be launching soon(tm). It involves promoting PrintABlok by giving away premium sets with comic books telling the story of the PrintABlok pilots. The comic book pages tell the story of the PrintABlok pilots and I’m really enjoying putting them together. Right now I’m putting them together with some placeholder art, but I hope to get some artists to finish them and give them that professional polish. I hope they’ll go well and be well received. But even if they aren’t I’m enjoying making them. Make sure you’re on the mailing list if you want to be the first to know when these launch.
