It seems that everyone’s talking about Generative AI. Is it possible that this technology could allow the everyone to 3D print whatever they want? Today I explore a AI Generative 3D modeling tool, Meshy.AI to figure out if this is a step into the future, or a step into… something else.
Despite what meshy.ai wasn’t able to do in my testing, I still felt a great amount of hope for the fact that Meshy.AI could do… at all! The fact that we are to a point where generative AI is turning text requests into 3d models suitable for 3D printing is, in my opinion, amazing and praiseworthy. I honestly hope this video does well enough to merit a follow up because there are so many other topics I want to explore from how to cleanup the AI model in Blender to what I think this tool needs to do to be that Star Trek future I’m looking forward to. Heck, depending on the way the comments on this video goes, I think a video discussing the politics of Generative AI could be another topic worth exploring.
In this video I mentioned a technique for applying the texture back into the geometry to make the mesh more detailed. And I explored that technique in a video on my second channel, Blender for 3D printing. And returning to that channel… I really long for making more content for that channel. That’s the sort of thing that if I had the time I would rather be doing. However, videos on my main channel, especially the past 2 of them, have so greatly outperformed my Blender content that it makes it difficult to justify the effort. However, Blender 4 made some changes that made the old tutorial content on that channel, Blender for the Absolute beginner, outdated. So maybe I’ll update that and try to get back into it.
