How to avoid a scam 3D Designer

Watch on YouTube

I kid you not, no sooner had I finished editing this video that another one contacted me on facebook. It took me all of 2 seconds to image search their supposed portfolio pieces in their profile to lay bare their fraud. I considered sending them the link to this video, but I realized the point wasn’t to make scammers better at what they do. I hope they continue to be just as inept as ever.

It makes me wonder if there’s some sort of scam school out there, and the latest class is “How to pretend to be a 3D designer”. That’s the only reason I can think of to have so may of them coming through at once. “Got a computer? Got access to the internet? You can make thousands of dollars scamming rich Americans. Just find someone with a 3D printer and tell them you can make whatever they want to 3D print. You don’t have to know how 3D printing works or even how to 3D model. Just take their money and stop returning their emails.” Dang, it honestly just writes itself. It’s amazing how easy it is to steal when you decide to abandon all morals.

Hopefully nothing in this video is too ground breaking. Hopefully this is just common sense. But if this video wasn’t necessary, then why are the scammers still trying this angle? It must be successful on someone, meaning no matter what I think, there’s someone out there that needs to hear this. If this video manages to save one person, then I will consider it time well spent.

In other news, I’m working on a new campaign for Cthulhu and Friends. Hopefully I can get that out soon. My kids helped me come up with it, so I hope y’all like it. but here’s a teaser image:
