Revpoint Pop2 Review

I’m kind of ashamed how long it took me to realize the problems I was having with the Revopoint Pop2 wasn’t problems with the Pop2, but with 3D scanning in general. The Pop2 is great, and what it does to make it easy to use I can not over emphasize. In fact future scanners will be judged based on whether or not:

  1. I can use their software without setting up an account
  2. I can use their scanner without plugging it into external power
  3. The software works on a cheap laptop.

If they don’t do that, then even if they make better scans, I probably won’t use them. Not that I use 3D scanning that much. I would say it’s one of the less used tools in my arsenals, and that’s a shame.

I had a whole section of this video that I had to cut for time where I figured out how to put my camera on a turntable. The whole point was to do a faux 3D effect that works with sunglasses to show how bad people are at 3D. But, like I said, I had to cut it for time. But maybe I’ll revisit the setup with a better script about why 3D scanning sucks. It might be a little repetitive to what’s said in this video, but it might do better.

YouTube had just given me the ability to test multiple thumbnails. I should really go back and redo the thumb on my last video and see if it can get any more views. Though it was mostly for kickstarter backers. If you haven’t read the last kickstarter update, I spill all the tea on what I’m going to be working on in the next year.
