This video ran a little longer than usual. I had intended to include a more detailed guide to using Leon Fisher Skipper’s purge waste reduction scripts. But unfortunately, that had to be cut. Fortunately, his makerworld page does a good job of going over that for you, so no worries there. Just remember to always calculate your flush volumes before sending your print.
If I were being critical, and I often am, there’s a lot that BambuLabs could do to improve things. For instance, when an object is assigned to be a flush object, it’s infill should automatically be set to 90%, or even better, variable as needed per layer. And if we have a flush object, we shouldn’t need a wipe tower, just use the flush objects infill. (Or if the flush object doesn’t allow for enough wiping, tell the user that and encourage them to add a second flush object.) And, doggonnit, this script should 100% be incorporated into the default, after they thoroughly test it, of course. Because having to load Leon’s 3MF every time I want to do a multicolor print, and remember not to save over it with the particular details of a specific job I’m doing at the end, is kind of a pain.
Making the animated illustration for this video was a learning experience. I find the best thing to do is record the audio, count out the timing, convert it to a frame count, then do the animation. I’m not 100% happy with how it turned out, but I think it illustrated the idea and I’ve learned some tricks for next time.
