How to go Pro, Learning Designer Con’s Secrets

Watch On YouTube

Designer Con was recommended to me by someone at the Orange County Maker Fair Discord, and I immediately recognized it as a potential next step on my path towards a career as a toy designer. And boy howdy did that turn out to be true.

However, after looking at this footage, I went and got a steady cam for next time.

I do enjoy taking these sorts of trips, and I will be taking another one here in a little bit. In fact I may need to rush that video out because it’s got some exciting new tech in it.

There was an interview with one of the organizers of Designer Con that was cut from this video (Sorry, Dom). We talked about how what Designer Con is doing might influence the OC Makerfair in the future. It was interesting, but didn’t quite fit in this video. Maybe I’ll release that in the future in relation to going to OC Makerfair.Thinking about toy lines I could make, a few years back I made a series of cute Lovecraft inspired monsters. I decided to revisit that project, exploring the idea of them being a new collectable mini toy line. I cleaned up the original models and started adding to the roster. I’m still not sure this is something other people want, but I’m enjoying the exploration of them. And I can’t wait to try multi-color printing them.
