What’s Thang’s up to? An interview with Dennis DeMeyere of Thangs

They cynical might say that this is standard CFO speak, that Dennis is very good at saying what should be said. But I think Thangs’ actions bear out the rhetoric, and that’s where it matters.

But, I still don’t like to use Thangs myself. It feels like a tool made for someone else, and I think in many ways that’s what it is. It’s made for teams who need to collaborate, and if I’m ever in that situation I might feel different. But as-is the interface just doesn’t jive with me as well as, say, Printables.

But you can’t argue that Dennis’ heart isn’t in the right place.

Still, I signed up for Thangs memberships to give people an alternative to Patreon. However, I found Thangs to be very different from Pateron in now it’s going to be administered. First of all, the lowest tier is, in my opinion, kind of expensive. Also, you get access to everything I upload, but they give the option to limit how much you can download. So I’m treating this, like I said in the video, like a buffet. Pick what you want, up to 3 of them, every month.

I do wish they had smaller base tiers. Like, I’d love a “$3, download 1 per month, $6 download 2, and $10 download 4” sort of system. Maybe that’ll come in the future.

Meanwhile, my latest PrintABlok set, the Chicken Walker with Pilot Blaze, has been added to my Thangs Membership, so if you wanted to you could get it right now on Thangs, and while you’re there take your pick of whatever other PrintABloks or Low Poly Dinos you want.

Or you can support me on Patreon, or you can get it here directly. Options!
