Can you 3D Scan a Gaming Mini? Video

Watch Video

Special thanks to Andrew and Danny for agreeing to be a part of this video.

By the way, Danny just launched his third 3D printing related kickstarter, Lost Adventures Volume 2. Go check it out.

Honestly, I’ve been planning this video for a year. It took so long only because there was so much more I wanted to do with it, but was never getting to. Andrew’s Scantober proved the perfect excuse to just put out there what I’ve discovered do far, and not worry about all the things I still wanted to do. So now I’m got a potential multi-part series that I’ll probably never get to.

I really feel like the challenge of working Andrew’s and Danny’s participation into this video really made it better. For instance, Andrew recorded his part and sent me the video, and I realized only while I was editing that I was thinking he’d pop up on the screen for me to respond to, only I hadn’t asked him to record anything like that. I reached out to him, but he had already taken down the set and getting a matching shot would be too much work. So I came up with the ring animation, which I spent way too long on, but made me happy to see.

Also, I didn’t tell Andrew about the jab at his upload schedule. But I refused to upload without getting him to sign off on it.

Likewise with Danny, I recorded just a quick “Danny asked me to scan a mini”, but realized during editing that having him read the comment would be better, and reached out to him. I was dreaming in my mind the whole shot with the gently moving text and Danny zooming in and the music. So when Danny said it was too short notice even for a voice over (it really was) I decided, screw it, I’m gonna do a really bad Danny impression.

I don’t know if anyone else will find these gags as funny as I do, but I was definitely entertained.
