Rumors have been flying. Rumors have been confirmed. Stratasys will be acquiring Makerbot.
When the rumors started that Makerbot was going to sell, but no one knew who to, this to me was the best possible scenario. Stratasys invented the 3D printing process everyone is using now and they’re still innovating today. I would rather Makerbot be in the hands of the innovators than anyone else. Now Makerbot will have access to their FDM patents and be publicly traded, and Stratasys will have a home option.
As long as Makerbot continues to be a consumer friendly machine and continue to innovate I won’t feel the need to change the name of my blog. Not over this anyways.
EDIT: One thing that no one seems to be talking about is the fact that Stratasys now owns Thingiverse too. Please don’t do evil with it.
